What types of leg veins can be treated?

Varicose veins need a different treatment from spider or thread veins. Varicose veins are treated by the laser component Starlux 1640 Laser System. The small spot of laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within the vein. The resulting heat coagulates the blood and destroys the structure of the vein. The veins will then be absorbed by the body and disappear.

Spider or thread veins required treatment by IPL which is a less aggressive light therapy suitable for smaller, superficial vessels. This method uses pulses of light which heat the blood in the vessels and disperse it.

What are the treatments like and how many are required?

Most leg veins require multiple treatments over several months.
A pulse of laser or IPL energy may feel like a pinch similar to a snapped rubber band. Chilled gel on the skin and other cooling techniques prevent any real discomfort.

What preparation should I make?

Prior to and following any type of laser or IPL treatment you must limit your exposure to the sun; treatment should not be performed on tanned skin.

Aftercare

Clients who have received treatment with the Vasculight should wear support stockings for a period of two weeks and protection against the sun must be taken by wearing a SPF 25 for a minimum of one month after treatment.

Aspirin and other related medicines and excessive alcohol should not be taken for ten days after treatment and pounding exercise should be avoided for the same time period.

Unsightly leg veins are a problem for a great many women. They affect all skin types, age groups and lifestyles. Indeed 65% of adults will suffer from varicose and thread veins at some stage in their lives.

Varicose veins are vessels that have become enlarged and distended due to a weakness in the wall of the vein. Spider or thread veins are much smaller and more superficial, are red or purple in colour and can either be distributed in patches or stretch like a road map over the legs.

Using a combination of techniques, the most appropriate of which is determined by the doctor, we aim to drastically reduce unsightly veins leaving legs beautifully blemish-free.
