Use of Botox for Underarm Sweating

Sweating and body odour are taboo. Underarm sweating in particular can be anything from an embarrassing personal hygiene problem to a nuisance when either the sweat or deodorant stains your favourite clothes. But I bet you'll be surprised to learn that underarm sweating is not a medical necessity. You may be even more surprised to learn that there is in fact a simple "cure" for underarm sweating which completely [though temporarily] eliminates sweating. The name of the cure? Botox. At Bio2Clinic we use Botox to eliminate underarm sweating, each treatment lasting an average of six months.

Botox is of course better known for reducing fine lines and wrinkles - keeping us young and beautiful - but it has also proved an excellent treatment for muscle spasms affecting the eyes, face and neck and for foot problems in children with cerebral palsy. Botox as a cure for sweating, however, is something which is largely unknown by the public since of course it is rather less glamorous than facial rejuvenation and therefore less widely reported.

You might be a sufferer of Hyperhidrosis, in which case this treatment could change your life. But even if your level of sweating is "normal", have you ever spoilt an expensive outfit with underarm sweat or deodorant stains? Ever felt uncomfortable about your own body odour or wet patches on your clothes?
For those of you who are normal, sweating human beings, you will almost certainly relate to one of these scenarios.

The 15-minute treatment involves the application of 20-30 pin-prick injections of Botox into the underarm area. There are minimal side-effects and no recovery time. One treatment and your sweating will be significantly reduced for up to six months.

How does it work?

Small amounts of Botox are placed just under the skin of the armpit stopping the nerve signals that control the sweating process. The sweating starts to reduce 3-4 days after the treatment.

Who should be interested?

Apart from the obvious candidates - people who have a perspiration "problem", many of our clients work in close proximity to others, some are regular gym users and some are allergic to deodorants and anti-perspirants. We also have clients coming to us for this treatment in advance of a special night out or event when they don't want to risk spoiling expensive outfits. It's a popular pre-wedding treatment for those getting married as well as their guests - especially in advance of summer weddings and popular too with people who regularly give presentations and want to avoid the embarrassment of wet patches on their shirts or blouses. It's such a simple treatment. Basically, it's a well-tested treatment for the elimination of a taboo problem.
