Almost everyone will show some degree of sun damage on their skin. Signs of sun damage include red veins, sun spots, uneven pigmentation and fine lines.

We provide treatments for all aspects of photodamage.

Photorejuvenation (the Fotofacial) is the latest treatment for the reduction of facial redness, face veins, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles.

This treatment has impressive results in reducing the ageing effects of sun damage as well as reducing the effects of facial redness. Used in conjunction with skin peels and microdermabrasion, photorejuvenation can have a dramatic effect on acne and acne scarring.

Developed by a US dermatologist, the non-invasive treatment involves applying pulses of visible white light with a non-laser medical device to the full face, neck and/or chest areas.

After a series of three to five treatments performed at three to four weekly intervals, patients see a visible improvement in the appearance and texture of the skin. Discomfort during the treatment, which takes about 20 minutes, is minimal and the skin will look smoother even after the very first session. There is minimal recovery time required.

Patients can expect to be rid of brown spots and visible red capillaries as well as see a dramatic reduction in other skin pigmentation and fine lines.

This is in fact the first treatment ever available for the effective treatment of flushing or facial and neck redness. Unlike other facial rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing, there is little discomfort and no disruption to normal activities. For people wishing to have smoother, healthier and younger-appearing skin, this is a wonderful, long-lasting treatment.

Pigmented lesions are caused by melanin deposition in the skin.  They include “age spots” (lentigines), freckles, and moles and are caused by sun exposure.  They usually occur on the face, chest, and backs of hands.  Our IPL laser targets the pigment by emitting a pulse of light that is absorbed by the lesion and turns into heat which breaks up the pigmented cells.  Although the treatments are not specifically designed to treat pore size, many of our patients report that they notice an  improvement in not only pore size but tone and texture as well.  The treatments are comfortable and safe, with no down time.

Unlike at “medi-spas” and most doctors’ offices, all photofacial procedures are evaluated and performed by Dr. Shibayama herself for optimal safety and results.

What areas can be treated?
Any part of the body where there are brown spots can be treated.  The most requested areas are the face, chest, backs of hands and forearms.

What are the treatments like?
The skin is first cleansed.  The laser is then passed gently over the skin.  Our revolutionary  cooling tip keeps the skin cool and comfortable before, during, and after the pulsed light  is emitted.   Patients often describe the sensation as similar to a mild rubber band snap against the skin.  Treatments are quick--a full face photofacial takes about 15 minutes.  Afterwards there is mild redness and a sunburn like sensation for a few hours up to a day.  Normal activities can be resumed immediately and makeup can be applied although sunscreen is recommended on the treated areas.

What can I expect after a treatment?
Over the next few days the spots will actually darken and then disintegrate over the next week or so.  Most people also report a decrease in facial redness and vessels.  This results in younger, more evenly pigmented skin!

How many treatments are needed?
In general 3-5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart are recommended for optimal reduction in pigment.  The results will last for months to years, depending on compliance with the use of sunscreens.  As the pigmentary changes are caused by unprotected sun exposure, using a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen will protect your investment for a longer time.
