Facial Veins and Redness

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) using the Starlux 500 System and the G handpiece is the most effective and advanced treatment for facial redness, veins, capillaries, broken veins or thread veins, spider naevi and Rosacea. The short millisecond pulses of white light pass harmlessly through the superficial layers of skin and target the redness underneath. This results in a heating of the red blemish or vein resulting in its collapse and subsequent removal by the body.

A course of treatments may be recommended depending on the severity of the problem. Small isolated areas such as spider veins usually disappear with one treatment.

How does IPL work?
IPL – intense pulsed light is energy from flashes of light that pass through the skin to correct age-related and lifestyles related damage such as brown spots, skin pigmentation, facial blood vessels etc.  This breaks up the damaged, pigmented area and encourages new, healthy skin growth.

What does an IPL photorejuvenation treatment feel like?
Patients tell us it feels like the snap of a rubber band.  This feeling occurs with each pulse of light much like a pinch or slight stinging sensation.

Is IPL safe for all skin types?
Yes. With the amazing forward advancement of lasers today – all skin types can be safely treated with the Palomar StarLux IPL system.  Importantly, darker skin shades do require modifications in treatment protocol compared to lighter skin shades.  Dr. Leong has the experience and training to customize treatments for all skin types.

Are there any side effects?
The Palomar systems are so safe and yet gentle that side effects are rare but could occur.  These may include: slight reddening or swelling at the treatment sites – this typically goes away within a few hours. It is important to limit sun exposure while under treatment.

Will IPL also treat my facial and neck redness and Rosacea?
Yes.  The Palomar StarLux IPL system is very effective on not only spots, sun damaged skin, and dark circles under the eyes, but also improves skin tone and texture very well.  Photofacial treatments can reduce facial and neck redness, flushing and discoloration very effectively.  Rosacea, a progressive condition of the skin that causes redness and skin irregularities, responds very well to Palomar Starlux 500 IPL treatments.
